The strategic funding partnership will accelerate both organisations’ mission to tackle the global climate and nature crises, by mobilising capital for locally-led landscape regeneration

Vienna, Austria and Helsinki, Finland 2/10/2024 - The Landscape Finance Lab (the Lab), a leader in incubating large scale, holistic landscape restoration programmes, and mobilising investments to secure their long-term sustainability, is proud to announce that it has been awarded a core funding grant by philanthropic newcomer the RELEX Foundation for a Better Future (RELEX Foundation).

The grant of €200,000 per year, with potential to renew over two years to 2026, will support the Lab’s strategic goal of developing a robust pipeline of priority landscape initiatives across the globe, where targeted green finance would lead to the greatest impact for biodiversity, communities and climate. The grant will also help the Lab to establish with finance partners a dedicated first-of-its-kind landscape investment fund targeting biodiversity impact.

RELEX Foundation was founded in 2022 by three co-founders and an early employee of Finnish tech startup success RELEX Solutions. The independent foundation focuses on fostering biodiversity and mitigating climate change and its impacts, through supporting organisations and proven solutions that deserve greater attention.

"We are honoured to receive the backing of RELEX Foundation, a philanthropic partner that really understands systems change, and whose commitment to the environment and social justice very much aligns with our own. Landscape restoration is still a hugely underrated and underinvested polysolution to the many interconnected global challenges we face, and this funding will enable us to unlock more opportunities and capital flows to landscapes."

– Paul Chatterton, Landscape Finance Lab Founder and Lead

"We seek ways to simultaneously address the challenges of nature loss, climate change, and equity. The work of the Landscape Finance Lab does just that, and their ambition for scale is both impressive and inspiring. The Lab’s vision is systemic, their actions practical, and the drive of their team is palpable. We are very much looking forward to collaborating and learning with them."

– Outi Kuittinen, CEO of the RELEX Foundation
